Absolutely glorious weather over the weekend. I had shipped a bunch of parts to the marina and they were waiting when I checked in. So over the weekend I spent the time replacing a lot of clips, hook, trim, and electrical connections. I pulled some new wire and started sanding some deck wood to get it ready to varnish. I feel like the boat is in a lot better shape now that a lot of little details have been replaced or upgraded.
I am in Cape May and it looks like the weather is going to continue to be cool and bright with very little wind. So I am going to venture out into the Atlantic and motor up the coast instead of snaking through the channels on the East Coast of New Jersey. Once I start out, it will be the last time I point in a Southerly direction for quite some time. I'll be heading out the Cape May Inlet and then once I turn up the coast, it will not be until Lake Michigan that I will turn this way again. I know my general course is taking me north, but with all of the jigs and jaunts through the ICW and coming down Delaware Bay, there were several places for several miles that had me heading South.
My towing insurance is all paid up; I have two radios to call for help if I need, and a lot of bravado. I'm sure I will be ok, but there is some apprehension. This is still an ocean and many have faced perils when they just knew nothing would happen. The dingy is ready to be lowered at a moments notice and all gassed up just in case. Yee-haw, I am getting to be an old hand at this, though I still feel like a complete novice most of the time. Some of the people I have met have been doing this for years and they talk circles around me. I still have to remind myself which way starboard and port lie.
Hold my loves tonight Dear Lord and comfort all their fears.
