Leg 017 The Great Loop: North Myrtle Beach to Cape Fear

It's funny how hitting North Carolina has changed my outlook on things. I now feel like I am in the Northern States and on the upper portion of the loop. Not much change in scenery but the feeling is different. I was excited all weekend to get going to pass over that line.

It was a good weekend. I played a round of golf, went to the Barefoot Church for Sunday Service, cleaned up the boat, emptied the black water tank, filled the water tanks, changed the oil, spent some time on the beach, motored around town, went to Walmart and picked up some supplies, went out for dinner twice and breakfast once, enjoyed the evenings on deck, and now I feel refreshed. The weekend did much to mellow the melancholy mood I was in last week.

When I showed up at the golf course, I was paired with Molly and her two friends. So I had to play with three girls, who were all WAY better than me. I shot my normal 95 and lost four balls. I'm sure there is a metaphor there. After playing golf, she drove me around a little to show off the area and to pick up some things I needed. Had dinner with her and enjoyed a delightful evening on board. I can be very charming and funny when the mood strikes me. I think she enjoyed herself as much as I did.

I crossed the North Carolina border shortly after I took off, puttered down the ICW with little or no traffic, turned the corner on Cape Fear and am anchored just out of sight of Waterfront Marina. These next three legs will be putting some miles on as my hope is to get to Roanoke Island by Thursday. I want to spend the day at the Wright Museum over at Kitty Hawk and so be close enough to enjoy that as I take the normal weekend shutdown. So in light of that, I have prepared all the charting for the next few days and have all the provisions and supplies to just go and drive, drive, drive.

The weather has been gorgeous, in the 80's today, overcast to mostly cloudy with light winds. I couldn't ask for better weather if I ordered it specifically to try and get the miles underneath this craft. As a good friend used to say "We're picking 'em up and puttin' 'em down". I think I'm going to sleep fast this evening.

Wishing all my loves the smooth sailing in their lives that I enjoyed today.
