Leg 011 The Great Loop: Kilkenny Creek – Hilton Head 1

Wednesday, April 16, 2014 – 9 PM – Leg 10-11/Day 17 – 30.3 Miles

Cold, clear, and windy. Just a constant 10mph wind coming out of the west and the temp barely got over 50 degrees. Put on my heavy jacket, gloves, and cap today while downing two pots of coffee. I am currently in a bend at Isle of Hope and the marina is just across the ICW. I double checked the propane and all is good to have the heater burning tonight.

I'm glad I split these two legs into three. I tied up to an abandoned dock for a bit to eat lunch and warm up. Sat down and fell asleep for a bit. It was cold, but so very relaxing listening to the wind blow outside all bundled up in my coat. An absolutely perfect way to take a nap, I could get used to this relaxing.

The travel was uneventful and mostly just a picture of me huddled up on the cockpit seat steering from time to time with my foot and waiting for those times when I was pointed into the wind so the dodger could block it from blowing on me. Other than crossing the sounds, the travel has all been marshes with only slight tree growth.

The moon is beautiful tonight, looks just a little off full. I sat out and watched it rise as the twilight faded. Coming up over the ICW, stars popping out really clear, the sound of the breeze in the trees on shore, and a hot cup of coffee; sure makes a man think about his existence and his place in the universe. When the wind dies down, all you can hear is the buzz in your head. Tomorrow we dock in Hilton Head for a long birthday weekend.

Dear Lord, keep all my dear hearts warm as the thought of them warms my heart.
